A Note From Us

Hello everyone!

In addition to creating this newsletter for our members and followers, you may have noticed the major changes to our website: www.HastingsProgressives.com. These are both the handiwork of our new member Brian Buechner, who graciously volunteered to help us with our website, create this newsletter, start a merch site, and also connect our growing email list with Mobilize - the preferred vendor used by Indivisible. Thank you Brian!

It has been a busy - and draining - year so far, but we are just getting warmed up! With your help and dedication to progressive values, we are looking forward to the fall campaigns and activities. Whatever you can do is very much appreciated - whether that is volunteering for a campaign, donating to candidates, coming out for our weekly Saturday protests, serving as a delegate, making phone calls, placing a campaign sign in your yard or simply sharing your perspectives with friends and neighbors. It all adds up, and we know all of us will collectively make a huge difference come the general election in November.

Stay tuned for more newsletters and “calls to action” as we get further into the fall campaign season. We can’t do this without you!

What's at Stake

The issues on this ballot

The Governor, the Legislature, the Attorney General, and the Secretary of State on this ballot will shape the issues closest to home. This year, our votes help decide the direction of:

  • Reproductive freedom and abortion access
  • Voting rights and fair, secure elections
  • LGBTQ+ equality and protections
  • Public schools and how they are funded
  • Affordable health care and prescription costs
  • Workers' rights, fair wages, and paid family leave
  • Gun safety in our communities
  • Clean air, clean water, and climate

Whatever you care about most, August 11 is where the choices start.

After the Primary

Looking ahead to November 3

The general election is Tuesday, November 3. If you have moved or changed your name, update your registration by October 13. It only takes a minute to check your registration and be ready.

What We're Watching

On our radar

  • Federal voting bills. Proposals in Congress would add new federal ID and documentation requirements and could limit same-day registration.
  • Registration and early voting at the Capitol. State measures on automatic voter registration and early-voting access.
  • Early-voting access in Dakota County. Whether Hastings has enough early-voting sites, drop boxes, and staffing.
