Hastings School Board (ISD 200) NONPARTISAN · ELECT 3 |
5 candidates for 3 seats. Vote for three. Carrie Banaszewski Tate INCUMBENT WHY ARE YOU RUNNING? I’m running for re-election because I care deeply about student outcomes, responsible stewardship, and keeping our district strong long-term. I want to continue bringing data, accountability, transparency, and practical problem-solving to School Board decisions. FIRST THING YOU WILL WORK ON I’ll continue focusing on academic achievement and long-term financial stability—using data to identify where students are succeeding, where gaps remain, and how we can direct resources toward areas that will have the greatest impact. GETS TOO LITTLE ATTENTION The amazing opportunities available to Hastings students deserve more attention. Career Pathways, business partnerships, internships (coming soon!), College in the Schools, AP classes and PSEO give students multiple ways to explore careers and prepare for life after graduation. | Jessica Dressely INCUMBENT WHY ARE YOU RUNNING? I’m running for re-election because I want to continue putting student outcomes first. That means setting high expectations for academic achievement, monitoring measurable results, ensuring accountability, and making decisions that give every student the opportunity to achieve their personal best. FIRST THING YOU WILL WORK ON Strengthening the board’s focus on measurable student outcomes. We have established a clear strategic direction, and the next step is ensuring we consistently monitor progress, evaluate results, and hold the district & ourselves accountable for improving student achievement. GETS TOO LITTLE ATTENTION I think the range of opportunities available to our students deserves more attention. From rigorous courses to career education, our expanding Pathways program gives students more ways to discover their strengths, develop practical skills, and prepare for success after graduation. | Melissa Kinneman WHY ARE YOU RUNNING? I am running for Hastings School Board to help make amazing policies that prioritize every single child and each of their individual needs. I am running so parents feel heard and seen and so our teachers feel supported. FIRST THING YOU WILL WORK ON I would love to advocate for more mental health training and support for our teachers and students. GETS TOO LITTLE ATTENTION Hastings has warm and welcoming people that make our town and community so amazing. | Kendal Larson kendallarson.com WHY ARE YOU RUNNING? I am running to help the school board regain the trust of teachers and staff, develop policy that ensures student success, and give students the best opportunity for success after graduation. FIRST THING YOU WILL WORK ON The 2025 Perception Survey threw up a huge red flag that there is a need to change leadership in the school board due to the 28% reduction in that area among teachers and staff. Rebuilding that trust is paramount. GETS TOO LITTLE ATTENTION The declining trend in enrollment needs to be addressed. I think that city and school leaders should work together to identify ways to make Hastings appealing to younger families, and affordable housing is a great start. | Mark Zuzek INCUMBENT WHY ARE YOU RUNNING? As a career educator, I have worked as a teacher, assistant principal, principal, and superintendent. I have a 360-degree view of the entire school district. I want to make a difference, leave a positive legacy, and stay relevant in education. FIRST THING YOU WILL WORK ON I want every child to come to school as their “whole self” with pride and confidence. There are too many kids who feel marginalized for being themselves. Unless we can reach each child, we cannot teach all children. GETS TOO LITTLE ATTENTION There is currently a lack of trust in the board to "do the right things to move the district forward." This can be turned around by respecting their training, wisdom, and experience. The school board's role in governance.

Ballot Question · Don’t Skip It A blank counts as a no “Shall the Minnesota Constitution be amended to increase the funding going to all school districts from the permanent school fund, which is a fund that supports school districts without raising individual income or property taxes, effective July 1, 2027?” 1 statewide question, and no city, county or school district questions. Under Minnesota law, a blank has the same effect as voting no. If you have an opinion either way, mark it. |

At the Capitol Two seats, decided by 321 and 510 votes |
Minnesota Senate, District 41 ★ OUR SEAT · REMATCH OF 2022 |
A 2022 rematch. That race was decided by 321 votes out of nearly 43,000. Tom Dippel GOP Party endorsement: Senate District 41 Republican convention, March 28 Office now: State Representative, District 41B dippelformn.com No answers. Hear the opening statement at 35:58 in the Sept. 30 forum and at 6:21 in the Sept. 15 forum. | Judy Seeberger DFL INCUMBENT Party endorsement: Senate District 41 DFL convention, Feb. 21 judyforsenate.com WHY ARE YOU RUNNING? I’m running to continue the good work I've done. From protecting reproductive freedom, to defending civil rights, to feeding kids in schools, I’m proud of my work to make Minnesota the best place to live, work, and raise a family. FIRST THING YOU WILL WORK ON I will defend the progress we've made, while continuing to ensure all Minnesotans feel safe, respected, and free to live their lives without fear. I will continue my work to ensure everyone has clean water in Hastings, and across Minnesota. GETS TOO LITTLE ATTENTION Just how amazing the town is. I often hear, “I forgot how cute Hastings is” or “I didn’t realize there were so many good restaurants in Hastings.” I’ll continue to promote all the good things Hastings has to offer. |

Minnesota House, District 41B ★ OUR SEAT · OPEN |
Open seat. In 2024 it was decided by 510 votes. William Beck GOP Party endorsement: Senate District 41 Republican convention, March 28 beckforhouse.com WHY ARE YOU RUNNING? I am motivated by my kids. My eldest son has Down Syndrome, which inspires me to fight fraud in our social programs and ensure those funds reach those who need them. FIRST THING YOU WILL WORK ON Clean water funding for Hastings and Cottage Grove is a top priority. Other priorities include banning flock cameras, banning NDAs in Data Center negotiations, supporting our schools, and holding fraudsters accountable. GETS TOO LITTLE ATTENTION Hastings will need a new fire/police station in the near future. Unless that funding comes from the state, residents will again see their property taxes skyrocket. | Jen Fox DFL Party endorsement: Senate District 41 DFL convention, Feb. 21 jenfoxforhouse.com WHY ARE YOU RUNNING? I am running because our district deserves a representative who stands up for and fights for our district. That’s who I want to be. FIRST THING YOU WILL WORK ON If our campaign wins, the very first thing I will work on is better funding for clean water. GETS TOO LITTLE ATTENTION One thing about Hastings that gets too little attention is how incredible it is to raise a family here. We are so lucky for our community and too few of our political figures highlight that. |

City Hall Mayor and City Council |
Mayor of Hastings NONPARTISAN · ELECT 1 |
MF Mary D. Fasbender INCUMBENT | Geoffrey Norquist WHY ARE YOU RUNNING? I believe that when you go to the voter booth you should have options. Win or lose, I have at the minimum shown people you don’t need to be “into” politics to make a difference in your community. FIRST THING YOU WILL WORK ON I don’t have a first because situations change every day. What’s most important today can quickly change by tomorrow. But obviously we need to continue to address the water situation. GETS TOO LITTLE ATTENTION If I were to say one thing I don’t think gets enough attention in our town is the Hastings Hawks baseball team. Miesville gets all the love, and we need to support our town ball club more. |
|
City Council At Large NONPARTISAN · ELECT 2 |
4 candidates for 2 seats. Vote for two. The four ward seats are not up until 2028. Angie Haus INCUMBENT WHY ARE YOU RUNNING? I’m running because I genuinely love Hastings and the people who call it home. After four years on City Council, I want to continue serving our community, listening to residents, and helping make Hastings a place where everyone can thrive. FIRST THING YOU WILL WORK ON My first priority would be continuing the work to provide Hastings with safe, clean drinking water while protecting residents from unnecessary costs. I’ll continue pursuing funding, responsible solutions, and transparency as we move these critical projects forward. GETS TOO LITTLE ATTENTION I think the people who quietly make Hastings special get too little attention. From volunteers and small businesses to residents who show up for their neighbors, our community is built by people who care and give back every day. | MK Mitchel Kulage kulageatlarge.com | DP Dave Pemble INCUMBENT | LW Lee Albert Wickboldt |

Dakota County Commissioner, sheriff and county attorney |
County Commissioner, District 1 ★ OUR DISTRICT · ELECT 1 |
District 1 is Hastings plus the rural south and east of the county. NR Nathan Ryan No answers. Hear the opening statement at 3:31 in the Aug. 25 forum above. | Mike Slavik INCUMBENT WHY ARE YOU RUNNING? Now more than ever, as counties are seeing significant shifts and mandates from the State of Minnesota and federal government, we need experienced leadership that will lead us through these challenging times and prepare our communities for the future. FIRST THING YOU WILL WORK ON In 2027, property taxes will be raised to cover the unfunded new programs and cost shifts from the state and federal government. This is unsustainable. Property tax reform and reducing unfunded mandates and programs will be my top priority. GETS TOO LITTLE ATTENTION The Dakota County Board prioritizes staying non-partisan. Unlike in many other counties in Minnesota, the current commissioners do not seek a political endorsement and most do not endorse others in partisan races. |

Dakota County Sheriff COUNTYWIDE · ELECT 1 |
Bobby Lambert bobbylambert4sheriff.com WHY ARE YOU RUNNING? Our Office has been experiencing an unprecedented number of early departures. Employees who feel valued and respected experience higher job satisfaction, improved mental health, and stronger motivation to perform at their best, which leads to lower turnover and higher productivity. FIRST THING YOU WILL WORK ON I will address our retention and recruitment issues by changing our office's leadership approach and philosophy, including some changes in our administrative personnel. My administration will be led by highly competent, high-character, people-oriented leaders who've demonstrated strong communication and collaboration. GETS TOO LITTLE ATTENTION Our current work environment. Most residents don't realize the daily stress and anxiety our employees experience in the office because they're afraid to speak up. Most still perform at a high level despite the lack of support, which is admirable. | Joe Leko INCUMBENT joelekoforsheriff.com WHY ARE YOU RUNNING? Dakota County is my home, and serving as Sheriff is personal. I’m running to continue providing proven, experienced leadership, strengthening public safety, supporting our outstanding staff, earning public trust, and preparing our communities for increasingly complex challenges. FIRST THING YOU WILL WORK ON I will continue focusing on our most pressing public safety challenges: mental health crises, illegal drugs and overdoses, and domestic violence—while recruiting and retaining exceptional employees and strengthening partnerships that help us prevent problems before they become tragedies. GETS TOO LITTLE ATTENTION The collaboration behind keeping Dakota County safe gets too little attention. Law enforcement, fire, social services, schools, nonprofits, and community partners work together every day. Those strong relationships are built over years and are one of our county’s greatest strengths. |

Dakota County Attorney COUNTYWIDE · ELECT 1 |
KK Kathy Keena INCUMBENT kathykeena.com No answers. Hear the opening statement at 3:12 in the forum above. | Jeffrey Sheridan jeffsheridan.org WHY ARE YOU RUNNING? County attorneys should not focus on how many people they can imprison, but on how many people’s lives they can make better. We may not help everyone who’s lost their way, but no longer because we weren’t willing to try. FIRST THING YOU WILL WORK ON Shifting the office’s focus toward those in power who do the greatest harm and away from those who are their victims. People who have all they need don’t commit crimes. Those who deprive them of that need to be accountable. GETS TOO LITTLE ATTENTION Its people. Dakota County is in the top five counties in Minnesota for its volunteerism and charitable giving. When our neighbors are in need, we step up. The need has never been greater than today. Step up, Dakota County! |

U.S. Senate OPEN SEAT · ELECT 1 |
Peggy Flanagan DFL Party endorsement: DFL state convention, May 30 Office now: Lieutenant Governor peggyflanagan.com WHY ARE YOU RUNNING? I'm running to help Minnesotans afford their lives. Too many do everything right and still fall behind. Public programs helped my single mom and me get by. I've spent my career delivering for families. Now I'll do it in Washington. FIRST THING YOU WILL WORK ON Lowering costs for Minnesotans. That means taking on the corporations and special interests rigging the system, fighting for Medicare for All, cutting prescription drug prices, passing universal childcare, raising the minimum wage, and stopping Wall Street from buying up homes. GETS TOO LITTLE ATTENTION How deeply we care for each other. Minnesota looks like America: immigrant communities driving our economy, 11 Tribal Nations, a proud civil rights legacy. It's rooted in fairness and looking out for our neighbors. We take care of our people. | Marisa Simonetti INDEPENDENT marisasimonetti.com WHY ARE YOU RUNNING? To make the system more fair. I am the only one who will not bow down to the system and who is not compromised or beholden to the games parties play. FIRST THING YOU WILL WORK ON People feel that the system is not fair and that many are deceptively benefiting at our expense. We need affordable housing, limits on for profit prisons, and to address the daily cost of living. GETS TOO LITTLE ATTENTION We're too comfortable with the foolish cycle of manufactured drama and problems that all lead to the same outcome: the people get poorer and the system gets richer. It's time to sue for justice and send these crooks to prison. | Michele Tafoya GOP Party endorsement: Republican state central committee, Sept. 1 micheletafoya.com | RW Rebecca Whiting LIBERTARIAN Party endorsement: Libertarian Party of Minnesota whiting4senate.us |

Lisa Demuth GOP WITH RYAN WILSON Party endorsement: Republican state central committee, Sept. 1 Office now: Speaker of the Minnesota House lisaformn.com | Amy Klobuchar DFL WITH BEN SCHIERER Party endorsement: DFL state convention, May 30 Office now: U.S. Senator amyklobuchar.com | Steven Young GREEN WITH JANE KIRBY Party endorsement: Green Party of Minnesota convention, April 18 steveformngov.info WHY ARE YOU RUNNING? I am running to represent my fellow anti-ICE colleagues on the ballot. Minnesotans witnessed every level of our government fail us this winter. I fought ICE in the streets, and organized suburbanites to help and prepare to fight back. FIRST THING YOU WILL WORK ON Arresting ICE with extreme prejudice. Banning data centers. Funding schools. GETS TOO LITTLE ATTENTION How much more self-sufficient we could all be if we started growing crops that made sense instead of just corn. We have a good thing going here, but we have to stand up to protect it.

Secretary of State INCUMBENT RUNNING · ELECT 1 |
TJ | Tad Jude GOP Party endorsement: Republican state convention, May 29 tadjude.com No answers. | SK | Seth Kuhl-Stennes GREEN Party endorsement: Green Party of Minnesota convention, April 18 seth4mnsos.org No answers. | | Steve Simon DFL INCUMBENT Party endorsement: DFL state convention, May 30 stevesimonmn.com No answers. | | George "Chip" Tangen LIBERTARIAN Party endorsement: Libertarian Party of Minnesota chipforsos.com WHY ARE YOU RUNNING? The “chief election officer” ought to be an impartial referee, not tied to one of the major parties. Voters need more choices on the ballot other than the two major parties. FIRST THING YOU WILL WORK ON We need to fix our state’s regressive ballot access rules and laws, which make it needlessly difficult for third-party and independent candidates to qualify for the ballot. #MorePartiesMoreFun GETS TOO LITTLE ATTENTION We regularly have the opportunity to vote for several presidential candidates and assume ballot access isn’t a problem. But it’s much harder to qualify alternative candidates for the state legislature - only 3% of the races have such competition. |

Attorney General INCUMBENT RUNNING · ELECT 1 |
| Keith Ellison DFL INCUMBENT Party endorsement: DFL state convention, May 29 keithellison.org No answers. Took part in the Oct. 2 debate above. | | Ronald J. Schutz GOP Party endorsement: Republican state convention, May 29 ronformnag.com WHY ARE YOU RUNNING? I’m a lifelong Minnesotan. Our three grandchildren live here and I want them to grow up in a State that is not known as the land of 10,000 frauds but once again as the land of 10,000 lakes. FIRST THING YOU WILL WORK ON Everywhere I go in the State people are demanding that we do something about the massive fraud and corruption in our State so that will be at the top of a long to do list. GETS TOO LITTLE ATTENTION In my travels I have been reminded about the vast geographic diversity of the State. From the vast corn fields of Southern Minnesota to the pine forests of the North. Minnesota is a wonderful place filled with wonderful people. |
|
State Auditor OPEN SEAT · ELECT 1 |
| Zack Filipovich DFL Party endorsement: DFL state convention, May 30 zackformn.com WHY ARE YOU RUNNING? I’m the only accountant running for Minnesota State Auditor. I will protect local tax dollars, modernize the State Auditor's Office, expand public transparency in local government finance, and ensure there’s no fraud or accounting errors. FIRST THING YOU WILL WORK ON 75% of CPAs are of retirement age today. This is going to hit Minnesota communities hard, risking local finances everywhere. I'll expand workforce pipelines, reduce staff turnover, and create joint powers agreements between municipalities to share finance staff. GETS TOO LITTLE ATTENTION Local government finance! These dollars pay for roads, schools, fire, police, parks, water, and more. These are big and important things, but are hard to understand without technical expertise. I will translate the data into digestible content for the public. | | Scott Jensen GOP Party endorsement: Republican state central committee, Sept. 1 drscottjensen.com No answers. Took part in the Aug. 14 debate above. | | Jay Reeves FORWARD INDEPENDENCE Party endorsement: Forward Party (national), July 10 jayreevesformn.com WHY ARE YOU RUNNING? I’m running because fraud, waste, and government failures affect real Minnesotans, including my family. Minnesotans deserve an Auditor who answers to them, not a political party. I’ll use data and leadership experience to find problems earlier and protect taxpayer dollars. FIRST THING YOU WILL WORK ON My first priority is moving the Auditor’s Office from reactive to proactive. We’ll streamline reporting, expedite audits, and use data to identify vulnerabilities before they become headlines. Taxpayers shouldn’t have to wait for government failures to be discovered. GETS TOO LITTLE ATTENTION Minnesota’s sense of community gets too little attention. I’ve lived in different parts of the country, and I’ve seen the difference. Minnesotans care about their neighbors. That spirit is one reason my wife and I chose to come home. |
